First Outing Of The Band In New Kilts:
The pipe band under the direction of Pipe Major D Rennie led the annual re-dedication service parade for Carnoustie BB and GB Companies on Sunday, 21st October to Carnoustie Church.
Consisting of 13 pipers and five drummers, including our drumming instructor Mr Knight and a piper from Carnoustie, the band led the the parade to and from the church over what seemed a very long 'five minute' march especially for our senior bandsmen. Our younger bandsmen on the other hand played like seasoned troopers.
This special day marked the culmination of re-equipping the band and fitting out members in new Ancient Smith kilts. The tartan was chosen in honour of our Brigade founder, Sir William Smith of Pennyland. Predominately green, it also reflects the colours of the BB uniform in the blue, red and yellow displayed in the check. This set also differs from the other local bands which wear a predominately red tartan.
In resurrecting the band classes, Sunday marked the culmination of five years tuition and encouragement and hopefully marks the beginning of another successful chapter in the life of the 44th. Well done to Mr Rennie and his dedicated team of instructors.
