Junior Section News:
Its been a busy time for the section so far in 2008. At the beginning of the year the section visited Mills observatory to learn all about the solar system and a gaze at the stars. The boys thoroughly enjoyed this visit and on return to BB they made some fantastic space related craft items such as spaceships, solar systems and new planets.
The section also visited the Broughty Ferry lifeboat shed this month, the boys learned about the importance of the lifeboat and enjoyed watching a DVD and trying on the kit. Well Mr Brown enjoyed it more than the boys I think.
On parade nights the boys have been completing a personal research project on BB companies around the world, the completed booklets we received back show that the boys enjoyed this and found out a huge amount of information on the topic. We even had a visit from a German minister. The boys will complete this project by taking part in the International games held at the hall this month, every company from around the world take part and submit their entries.
All the officers in the section continue to make sure that the session is as action packed as possible and future events are being organised to keep all 37 boys occupied,

Having Fun at Scott Lodge
Programme:
The Junior Section and officers have completed an extensive programme of activities and badgework. One section’s success are the number of royal blue jerseys on parade, around 40 most Thursday evenings. They continue to play games on a Thursday and work through the bronze silver and gold badge achievements of the national programme.
Our boys have participated in Battalion-organised competitions for various events including football, swimming, cross country running and the marching. After last year’s blank, our boys were back in the prize winners lists. This only tells half the story because our boys have entered competitions with a sense of fun and obvious enjoyment which has been noted by the various judges that encountered the 44th ‘in action’.

Annual Highlights:
Annual highlights were once again the Scott Lodge weekend in May and the Halloween fancy dress party. Scott Lodge whilst not as wet as previous visits, it still had its share of showers. This did not stop our intrepid boat builders’ carry out a river race with their new created crafts and most boats did make it to the finishing line. Scott Lodge this year is on the weekend of 11/13 May. At Christmas the section maintained an old tradition by singing carols at Orchar House.
Under the leadership of Niall Nicolson and Lee Craigie a battalion wide invitation mini football tournament took place and was a roaring success.
